To be frank, Hazel doesn't end the book in a terribly different position than she began it. It doesn't have a very happy ending, but it has a hopeful ending. It's a story about learning to hope and move on and be happy even when all the stars have aligned against you. In the end, I think it's a story about hope. It was not written to show the "beauty" of teenage tragedy and get us all to fall in love with Augustus and weep our eyes. Yes, it is a love story, but in the end, it's not really a book about love. To begin with, I thought that this book had much more guts than a lot of YA literature. I wasn't expecting much more than a YA tearjerker, so I was quite impressed by the book.Īs with both of you, I wasn't obsessed with it, but I was impressed. I had no idea who John Green was, but I'd seen that it had received decent reviews, so I decided to give it a go. ![]() I had the good luck of reading it before I heard all the hype. ![]()
